I’m happy to share that I’ve just started working at the Sarasota Art Museum as a Visitor Experience Associate (VEA). My job involves helping visitors with information about the museum’s temporary exhibitions as well as some of its permanent pieces. It’s a great opportunity to talk about art, discover new artists and proposals, and meet interesting people—both among the museum’s visitors and my colleagues at work.

The museum building (a great example of Gothic Revival) has an interesting history: it was originally Sarasota High School, from 1927. At the end of the last century, it was nearly demolished, but a local initiative decided to restore it and turn it into a museum of contemporary art. The project was led by the community and Ringling College of Art and Design, which now manages the space located in 1001 South Tamiami Trail.
I’ll be sharing more soon about the exhibitions that stand out to me. In the north part of the museum, there’s a striking red sculpture titled Complexus by artist John Henry. The piece symbolizes the cultural heritage of Sarasota, a city deeply committed to the arts in different forms.
